The CHS Quiz Bowl Team is an academic team which competes in Jeopardy style
competitions throughout the tri-state area. Although there is no official
Quiz Bowl organization in the state, many high schools have academic teams that
participate in tournaments hosted by colleges, universities and other high
schools.
The CHS Quiz Bowl Team hosts two tournaments a year following two different but fairly common formats. In addition, the team attends many
events each year. Most competitions are hosted on Saturdays, but we also
participate in a computerized competition run by a company called Academic
Hallmarks twice a year (in which we usually place in the top 4 teams in NJ and
the top 10% of teams participating nationally.) We also host a faculty
version of the computerized
contest as well as a Student v. Faculty assembly at the end of the year.
The team is strictly voluntary. There are no tryouts, as we are interested
in students who want to join the team because they have a passion for academic
knowledge.
To give you a brief overview of the team's accomplishments:
In the last five years, we have attended 4 national
tournaments in Atlanta GA, Washington DC, Houston TX and Myrtle Beach SC. We are
invited to attend another this year in Chicago IL.
This year, our competition statistics read as follows:
October 2, 2004; at South Plainfield HS, the A team and B teams both finished in the top 8.
November 13, 2004 at Rutgers
University, the A team went undefeated in 6 preliminary rounds of play, placing in the top 16
teams.
November 20, 2004 at Princeton

IL.
December 11, 2004 at Columbia HS, the
